between dopamine uh sexual motivation and sexual behavior and I’ve been of the pretty strong stance that while I’m not judging porn or masturbation it can create a brainwiring situation where males in particular essentially teach their brain to be aroused by watching other people have sex as opposed to being the first person actor in sexual uh interactions in terms of the effects of pornography and masturbation and here I suppose we need to be um somewhat specific and operationally define what we’re talking about we’re talking about porn and masturbation to the point of ejaculation right my understanding is that the ejaculation and and orgasm associated with it cause an increase in prolactin which blunts libido for some period of time andrew Huberman is the first person the first person to align with my position on like why nofap might help somebody nofap is is this idea that a male takes a break from masturbation and specifically takes a break from the consumption of pornography uh to to induce ejaculation through masturbation and that ultimately leads that person or lands that person in a place of better sexual function better libido better erections and they can have sexual dysfunction that they think is attributable to other things that just resolves if they stop watching porn and stop masturbating now people have all manner of theories about why this is the case and and a lot of them uh speak about it from the perspective of dopamine the the brain side of the consumption of pornography and the carryover effects that that might have in real life situations and while I don’t disagree that you know if you’re excessively watching pornography then that might sort of change the the interpersonal dynamics when you’re in real life with a real person having sex i’ve always contended that it’s a it’s a bigger problem and the problem is hormonal and Huberman said the big word the P word boys prolactin and that this is ultimately why the ceasing fire of pornography induced masturbation and ejaculation helps people so I want to go through Hubman’s video i want to comment on it because he says some really [ __ ] important [ __ ] there that really is the the crux of the issue i mean I think it’s the underlying cause of you know sexual dysfunction libido problems induced by masturbation and it isn’t what you’d think it is [Music] i dream awaken removing porn and removing masturbation to ejaculation you know will fix the problem and for some of these guys so long as it isn’t strictly hormonally mediated like they’re in a pretty a pretty uh dire place relative to testosterone levels it it tends to fix the problem for some of these guys but it’s commonly attributed to rewiring of dopamine right right when you stop watching porn and stop ejaculating in response to porn dopamine system rewires as if it could rewire that way and then and then suddenly like your uh craving for actual in-person sex with a real person is better restored and back to normal i’ve always contended that that’s not the case so you could have a a person with a very healthy sexual system that consumes porn sparingly or every now and then and still has perfectly fine sex and porn isn’t really the the damaging factor in the problem instead the damaging factor from my perspective has always been ejaculation induced prolactin increases we’ll get into exactly how that causes sexual dysfunction ED among other things but let’s get into Huberman’s video cuz he’s the first person the first person to publicly discuss this in a way which I think is neuroplasticity and dopamine but what are your thoughts on porn and masturbation as they relate to hormones i mean this is a big debate on the internet in fact one of the most common debates is whether or not masturbation increases or decreases testosterone in males certainly it will decrease motivation to go find sexual partners we know this okay so I just want to us couch it right there for a second and say okay fair assessment fair assessment i mean if all you’re doing relative to sex and getting aroused is watching like the craziest [ __ ] porn there is on like you know the popular websites then it it should and you’re masturbating to ejaculation then it absolutely should presumably cause you to lack motivation and finding uh real life sexual partners now look some people’s libido depending on how they’re manipulating their hormones is just high all of the time regardless of whether or not they consume pornography but for a good degree of people the consumption of pornography and the ejaculation in that process is going to lead them to be less motivated to go find in-person sexual partners there are more and more data on this all the time in terms of the effects of pornography and masturbation and here I suppose we need to be um somewhat specific and operationally defined what we’re talking about we’re talking about porn and masturbation to the point of ejaculation right my understanding is that the ejaculation and and orgasm associated with it causes increase in prolactin which blunts libido for some period of time the duration of that will vary from person to person and circumstance to circumstance but basically all of this points to the fact that porn and masturbation can really limit libido in the real world and to me uh pornography and the screen is not the real world screens exist in the real world the real world doesn’t exist in the screen that’s an accurate statement and prolactin does have a significant acute increase after uh ejaculation it does to some degree after orgasm as well but prolactin acts on the pituitary to inhibit the release of the hormones LH and FSH of which LH can increase testosterone so this may be one of the cases where the dose makes the poison and if it is a very frequent habit certainly daily or more than once a day would be very detrimental from a hormonal component not even taking into account the the neural wiring ah thank you thank you sweet sweet validation of people who are smart look I have said this for years like I’ve had people come to me for sexual dysfunction i mean in fact that’s a primary thing that I get via consulting and you know people have theories on why a good degree of the people that may not be on androgens will come and say that they think it is because they consume a lot of porn so they’ll be like « The last 3 weeks I have stopped watching porn and stopped ejaculating and masturbating to porn and things have been getting better but they’re just not completely better yet. » And a good degree of these people actually do need like are going to need exogenous hormones i mean listen men men above 33 years old as testosterone almost definitely for 85 plus% as an estimation of men is going to [ __ ] decline are going to perform better sexually feel better have more strength in the gym or be more masculine and confident uh with exogenous use of testosterone but what this other guy said and what Hubberman basically started the conversation regarding about prolactin the bottom line with nofap and my position on why I think it helps some of these individuals is because when you watch porn and you masturbate to ejaculation you then cause a 10 to 15 nanogs per milliliter increase in serum prolactin levels serum prolactin levels increasing say this is a problem for you which is what would lead you to nofap and you’re using porn to masturbate and ejaculate twice a day or three times a day or even once a [ __ ] day well guess what you’re doing if you’re not on androgens but but regardless you’re increasing serumactin step one it’s going up 10 to 15 possibly 20 nanogs per milliliter in a short period it it tends to just go back down probably within 24 hours or so according to the literature that whole time though you’re inhibiting via prolactins effect the the lactoropes specifically on the pituitary gland and their inhibition of luteinizing hormone you’re preventing like the primary precursor signaling chemical in the male brain which signals the testes to produce testosterone by inducing a surge in prolactin continuously you set uh somewhat of a steady state a steady state of testosterone inhibition because you’re preventing luteinizing hormone from stimulating the lidic cells in the testicles to make testosterone if you do this multiple times a day and it becomes a bit of an impulsive problem you’re inducing sexual dysfunction cut and dry right this is all super clear think about when a man climaxes right you know uh this whole notion of post-nut clarity right like after you climax you’re like am I really interested in this woman or especially in casual dating context usually if you don’t like the woman you don’t want to cuddle with them and you don’t want to hang out with them and you kind of get this clarity of like okay all I really needed to do was have sex and climax at the same time though erection quality goes right down you know and normally if you’re not have if you’re not doing ultra ultra ultra dick optimization then you know erection is going to go down on your libido is going to drop and your whole mode is going to shift in that case you get after ejaculation again assuming you’re not ultra ultra doing dick optimization strategies like tidal naringen uh pumping achieals all these things that can optimize the erections for males erection is going to go down but importantly your interest in sex goes down the whole sexual system via causitive mechanisms in the pituitary relative to the pituitary lactoropes that secrete prolactin shuts down so imagine you’re doing this multiple times a day or seven days a week six seven days a week you’re you’re doing this consistently what do you think is going to happen to the sexual system over time well you’re blunting it via the increase in prolactin the inhibition of testosterone you’re blunting the whole thing at the same time you’re also blunting tubular infendibular dopamine neurons so these are the dopamine neurons that bind to the D2 receptors and prevent prolactin release in your brain the actin can temporarily silence those dopamine neurons after which those dopamine neurons will have to upregulate fire more so that it can control the prolactin release this is how your prolactin goes down after it goes up after ejaculation via the tubular infendibular dopamine neurons but if you’re constantly saturating that environment with prolactin well then those dopamine neurons are going to function less well which is going to lead to a loss of libido via loss of um pituitary hypothalamus pituitary dopamine but at the same time you’ll have out of out of control prolactin and an inhibition of testosterone synthesis so what I’m contending is the crux of the matter and the real basis of the issue is continuous surges and prolactin which are inhibiting testosterone i mean that that’s very simple if you really try to get in touch with yourself after ejaculation you’ll recognize that you stop being into sex erection quality suffers you know with some guys it’s called refractory period where you know if you’re managing hormones in a way which allows you to have sex again in an hour or two and one of the ways you could do that is to be taking Kberg broine P5P to a lesser extent things that lower prolactin well then you’re interested in sex sooner but most people aren’t doing that and don’t really have a need to be doing that now some people via uh inhibi you know via stopping masturbating to porn and therefore stopping ejaculation and therefore stopping the prolactin surges from happening at a steady stage which is inhibiting your testosterone are going to get better and start having random erections and good libido if they do nofap but most people are attributing the success to the dopamine wiring and rewiring factor of this and to me you know looking at the physiology of this and studying it over the course of the last 10 years it is definitely the prolactin and much less so the dopamine let’s go to a Reddit thread this is in the no there’s a whole forums on this right this is in the nofap form it goes one month into nofap so you know not masturbating to porn and ejaculating finally seeing the changes let’s cut to the important part guy goes « On February 26 I decided enough was enough good man i told myself it was time to get my life together have a real social life go out more and stop being so isolated now after a month of nofap the first three weeks were rough with no changes but last week things started improving so at week four things started improving i randomly got erections during the day and in the morning I woke up hard two or three times today I even had my first wet dream in years that made me so happy i also feel more confident today i greeted a couple girls on the street and they responded that’s something I would have never have done i’ve even set up a couple dates for the week now let’s just dial this back and think about the mechanics of this behavior a man that greets women on the street that he may think are attractive and a man that uh asserts himself to set dates or pursue a woman is a sign of what that’s a sign of healthy levels of testosterone in that man people that have come to me that are trying to get on TRT and just want to do a consultation about TRT and ask questions are inevitably or invariably not on TRT and their testosterone levels are low and besides libido interaction issues and strength issues and whatever one of the primary things is they have no confidence to pursue women they don’t make the first move move they’re [ __ ] sitting there with her hands folded or if they you know manage to get themselves on a date being like the good boy and not breaking the touch barrier the entire [ __ ] date then after two dates the girl’s like « Right this guy you know it’s like might as well be my book club partner like they’re not interested in that. » Moment someone’s testosterone levels start rising and they’ve got specifically the DHT which is the male hormone i mean testosterone is good for anabolism dht is more androgenic than anything and that’s really the masculine assertive uh male hormone in this case okay this guy stopped masturbating stopped ejaculating stopped the 10 to 15 or possibly 20 nogs per milliliter increase frequent increase in prolactin which inhibits testosterone and then as testosterone levels started being able to function and synthesize without luteinizing hormone inhibition from the pituitary lactoropes erections came packed random erections the desire for sex with women you know having dreams about sex and then particularly that last part the confident masculine state where you want to comment to women and you don’t care how it comes across but you come across [ __ ] supernatural and cool and so they like it and you want to pursue dating setting dates etc that’s exactly what happens when you get on testosterone or when your testosterone levels rise the same can be said for erection quality wet dreams all this kind of stuff like when men are in a low testosterone state and then they start taking TRT well then the warning erections come back the random erections come back the erections for sex are there you’re generally just more interested in women all of this really is testosterone conversion to dihydrotestosterone and some conversion to estradile as long as it doesn’t go above that person’s limit after which libido erections are usually inhibited last one I want to go over just to reinforce this point is titled quitting porn is easy quitting masturbation is hard this guy goes of course this is my personal opinion i’m suffering from PIE and lack of morning wood pied I I suppose stands for porn induced erectile dysfunction and lack of morning wood yes but here’s the problem the the the whole issue with this is we’re not characterizing it the right way and we don’t have the right acronyms it’s it shouldn’t be porn induced erectile dysfunction it it could stay PIED but it should be prolactin induced erectile dysfunction prolactin not only via the tubular infendibular dopamine neurons and shutting down sexual function also shuts down erectile quality via likely nitric oxide mediated mechanisms at the base of the penis there’s been studies on this so really what I just want to leave people with in watching this video is that I think people in this whole community really should rework their analogies their their acronyms rather they should understand the culprit when you understand the culprit of like ED or libido issues induced by ejaculation and porn then you understand better how to target it i’m not saying watching porn is a good idea but like if you want to continue at some capacity the consumption of porn recognize that you’re probably going to have to dose some P5P which will add more synthesis of dopamine in the pituitary and that will stop some of those lactoropes from secretreting a bunch of prolactin inhibiting your [ __ ] testosterone ultimately a good degree of these guys if anyone wants to test this right if anyone wants to go and and validate my position on this just go get you know however you can manage to get it 0.25 25 milligram tablets of kbergolene kabbergalene is a very strong high affinity longacting dopamine D2 receptor agonist and when kbergolene sits at the D2 receptors in the pituitary gland it stops prolactin secretion it actually over time involutes lactoropes it has the potential to even [ __ ] cause fibrosis in lactoropes and those cells don’t work anymore and they’re not going to produce prolactin if you find you do that and you still consume porn and you still ejaculate but your libido and erections are still good well then you’ve validated my position on this because all it ever was was prolactin increasing and inhibiting testosterone just an experiment for people not saying it’s a good idea because generally speaking I don’t think it’s healthy for men to consume lots of porn and to masturbate to porn and to ejaculate to porn one of the things I see a lot in coaching practice is errors and attribution and I you know I like clearing that up for people because if if you think something which isn’t the cause of a problem is the cause of a problem it will send you down the wrong route to fix that problem you’ll do all the wrong things or things you shouldn’t be doing and you will miss the right things that you need to be doing in order to fix this problem and in this case sometimes men just need to jump on TRT you know and get their prolactin levels you need to stop consuming porn and ejaculating at that capacity but also your testosterone levels need to go up because that’s the ultimate problem yes there might be something to the dopamine side of this it is very very hard to rewire dopamine neurons i’m not even sure exactly that there’s a a neuroscientific explanation for for how this would work although I’m sure that it plausibly exists but like like like rewiring the dopamineergic system is a lot harder than people think you can’t even really downregulate D2 receptors with hardcore agonist you need high doses of them for a very long period of time to do that on the other end regeneration of the dopamineergic system is in fact easier than damaging the dopamine system or damaging dopamine neurons or receptor sites with compounds like 9methyl betaarbolene uh potentially with the use of cerebrroly these are all neurotrophic factor inducing or in the case of 9MEBC dopamineergic systems regenerative compounds so a tandem approach of not ejaculating to porn thus your prolactin doesn’t surge thus your testosterone gets to be more steady state and not inhibited plus optimizing the dopamineergic system would always be helpful i think optimizing dopamine is something that you know guys at various periods of their lives need to definitely do the bottom line is nofap and the benefits that come from nofap are are prolactin and testosterone mediated less so dopamine mediated and Huberman is the first person right him and that other guy are the first people to publicly talk about this where it’s like I look at it and I go this is what I’ve been saying for years so thank you
